Jackson, Miss – Agents from the State Auditor’s office arrested former New Houlka Town Clerk, Twilla “Gay” Williams, after a Chickasaw County Grand Jury indicted for embezzlement.
According to the indictment, between October 2012 and December 2013, Williams embezzled $10,047.72, from the town water department by altering the deposits and taking the remaining cash.
“My office will continue to take down individuals who choose to steal money from hard-working taxpayers,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “We will pursue prosecution and aggressively work to return the funds back to the citizens of New Houlka.”
Williams resigned her position as Town Clerk in August, 2014.
